The F-Word

Feminism- The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

Not, the hatred of men, the belief of superiority of women, and most definitely not “a movement full of women who seem to think that their ability to push a baby out of their vagina entitles them to bigger and better everything” as one woman wrote on a blog I shall not name (mostly due to the fact it makes my blood boil).

If you’re a regular reader then you know the deal…fashion, beauty, the occasional ‘where I’ve been’. I don’t involve myself with the politics of controversial topics or use this blog as a diary, I prefer the good old pen and paper for that. But recently there has been an influx of posts about ‘feminazi’s’ (even as I wrote that word out my computer tried to correct it to ‘feminism’…ironic much…

I think most people have a huge misconception about what being a feminism means. It means wanting and appreciating the fact that we have the same human rights as men, the same right to vote, the same equal pay. Imagine a female and a male both doing the exact same job, then at the end of the day the boss gives £30 to the man and £10 to the female (figuratively speaking). If this scenario annoys you or makes you confused even in the slightest, congratulations, you’re a feminist.

Feminism means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but in no way, shape or form does it ever mean thinking one gender is above the other, that isn’t feminism, that’s silliness. Yes females and males are biologically different, statistically are better are some things than others, but that doesn’t mean we all shouldn’t have the same basic human rights and abilities to make decisions.

I do not usually contribute my opinion on such topics because if you know me, you know I am very opinionated about most things, but prefer to leave others to their own thoughts and not argue over topics that are very personal to most. But I recently read two or three different blog posts, BY FEMALES MAY I ADD, who said they are not feminists. How? If you have a vagina and do not condone being beaten by man based on your gender then guess what sister, you’re a feminist. Even if you don’t have a vagina and still have those same beliefs, you’re a feminist.

So maybe the problem is that instead of supporting each other and encouraging all females to be more than just pretty faces, there are OTHER FEMALES telling us we should stick to looking good and they draw a thick line between the genders. Support not shame.

These are all my own opinions so don’t get your knickers in a twist, but do let me know if you agree/disagree, I’m open to all ideas, just remember gender equality is not a woman’s issue, it’s a human issue that affects us all.

That’s it for my Wednesday rant, but I hope you lovelies have a great day,

Sofia xx
